He was a World War II United States Army veteran and was retired from the Nickel Plate Railroad. He was also a member of the Apostolic Chapel Church in Peru.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; children, Patrick D. McNew of Greentown, Andrea S. (Daniel) Moss of Union, Missouri, Earl C. (Joyce) Baines Jr. of Tumbling Shoals, Arkansas, Stephen V. (Cheryl) Baines of Peru, Christina D. Baines of Alameda, California, and Timothy M. (Joy) Baines of Laplace, Louisiana; two brothers, Richard Baines of Cincinnati, Ohio and Mike Baines of Pennsylvania; sisters Verda Spice of Mishawaka, Phyllis Doane and Janiece Pardue, both of Solsberry; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Irene Correll and Doris Helderman.
Funeral services for Earl C. Baines will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 24, 2010, at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 W. Third in Peru, with Pastors Stephen Baines and Jeremy Baines officiating.
Burial will be at Marion National Cemetery in Marion.
Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 23, at the funeral home.
