He was born in Meigs county, Ohio, son of Frederick C. & Zelda (Hartley) Strohmeyer.
A miner for a while after school, he enlisted July 13, 1907, and at the expiration of his term of service, re-upped and was promoted to Sergeant.
When World War I broke out, he volunteered, and was sent overseas to France in the American Expeditionary Force, serving in St-Mihiel and Meuse-Argonne. He was promoted to 1st Lieutenant and transfered to the 61st Infantry, whre he served over thirty years.
His career in the military took him to the Panama Canal Zone, the Philippines, Europe and all around the country. He was severely wounded in World War I, but recovered. Lt. Strohmeyer stood 5' 6", had blue eyes and auburn hair.
