Obituary Mrs Alfred Mausolf, The Tribune, Great Bend, Kas, Mon May 10, 1937
Marjorie Isabel Leek was born seven miles northwest of Great Bend Jan 22, 1908, and passed away in Great Bend, May 1, 1937, at the age of 29 years, three months and eight days.
Her childhood days were spent on the farm northwest of Great Bend where among its wholesome surroundings she early developed those sterling traits of character which in later years brought her such a multitude of sincere and lasting friendships.
She early developed a talent for music and after graduating from high school in 1926 she attended Bethany college at Lindsburg in 1926 and 1927. From there she went to Hornor Institute in Kansas city and majoring in voice, received her bachelor degree in 1930. She spent one summer on the Redpath-Horner Chautauqua circuit as a member of a double quartet.
On April 10, 1936, she was married to Alfred W Mausolf and since that time her life has been just one grand song of love and happiness.
She leaves to mourn her death her devoted husband, her parents, Mr and Mrs Starr Leek, one sister, Meryl, and one brother, Max, all of Great Bend, besides a multitude of other relatives and friends.
Always unselfish, kind and c considerate of others, she counted her friends by the number of those with whom she came in contact.
She was baptized and became a member of the Methodist church in 1917, and remained a member of the church until her death.
Wile to our poor mortal minds the ways of God are inscrutable and sometimes seem rather harsh, yet we cannot hesitate to believe that His way is best and while her passing is leaving torn and anguished hearts, until such time as He shall see fit to reveal His plans and purposes to use we are content to believe in some simple reason for her passing. Perhaps God just needed another singer in His Celestial Choir so He cam and got Marjorie.
Truly her life was not lived in vain.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon, from he Methodist church, and burial was made in the Great Bend cemetery.
Death of Mrs Alfred Mausolf The Great Bend Tribune, 5-1-1937
Popular Great Bend Singer is victim of Pneumonia
The death of Mrs Alfred Mausolf this morning at St Rose hospital where she had been a pneumonia patient since last Monday night removed from Great Bend one of its most popular young women, and to material ears stills a voice that for years brought charm and delight to the music lover and a sense of peace and comfort to the sorrowing; for Mrs Mausolf was most generous with her musical gifts and gave freely of her service to church, club, funerals and musical activities of this community.
Blessed with a rich sympathetic contralto voice of gorgeous quality, and a keen appreciation for interpreting the songs she sang for the sheer joy of singing, and instilled happiness in others as naturally as the fragrance of the flower permeates the air.
Music and her married bliss constituted her life. To these she gave her love and devotion. Such a spirit can never be stilled by death no more than the beautiful harmonies of a master's composition. The symbols may be removed as with the erasure of figures or musical notes, but the mathematical rule and musical harmony go on as ever, proving their eternal truth. The lovely spirit of Marjorie Leek Mausolf will ever be a living, vital, entity to those who knew her.
Marjorie Leek was born Jan 22, 1908 in this city. She graduated from the local high school in 1926. Later she attended Bethany College in Lindsborg, and continued her musical studies by graduating from the Horner Institute of Music in Kansas City.
During this time she engaged in Chautauqua and church work where her services as soloist were much in demand.
In Great Bend she was in such demand that seldom was any musical activity of any importance presented without her assistance. She was a vital and integral part in the musical circles of this community.
On April 10, 1935 she was united in marriage to Alfred Mausolf of this city and from that date to her passing marked one continuous honeymoon. Her life was filled with happiness because she loved much, and she learned something of the poet's work that "Love begets love.,"
She is survived by her husband, her devoted parents, Mr and Mrs Starr Leek, sister, Meryl, and brother Max.
Her funeral service will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the Methodist church and burial will be made in the Great Bend cemetery.
