Virginia "Ginny" Lee Wanty Barton was born Sunday, February 27, 1938 in Ann Arbor, MI, the only child of Floyd and Ellen (Gooding) Wanty; and she died September 21, 2010 in Norman, OK, from pancreatic cancer.Ginny grew up in Milan, graduating from Milan High School in 1956. She received her BS in Pharmacy degree in 1960 beginning her career ambition as a pharmacist at the U of M Student Health Center. Later she transferred to the U of M Hospital. She met her future husband, Rogers I. Barton, on the U of M campus and they were married in Ann Arbor on December 6, 1963. In 1968, she followed her husband in his career in the U.S. Public Health Service, which provided her new opportunities in the field of Pharmacy. She accepted a pharmacist position at the federal government's Indian Health Center, Navajo Reservation, Kayenta, AZ and at the Monument Valley Hospital in Utah. When they moved to Holton, Kansas she found employment at a private pharmacy. In Norman, Oklahoma she worked as a pharmacist for the Oklahoma State Department of Mental Health and retired in Feb-ruary, 2000 after 20 years of service. Ginny was a member of McFarlin United Methodist Church in Norman, OK, active in the Searchers Sunday School Class, United Methodist Women, and a Bible Study Group. She also enjoyed attending The Grace Fellowship Church. Some of her other interests were swimming, quilting, gardening, and genealogy. In 2007, she became a member of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants. Descendant of the Pilgrim Thomas Rogers. Her family and friends brought her the most joy and delight. She is survived by her husband, Rogers, of 47 years; their daughter, L. Lynn and husband Toby Hallows, grandchildren, Richelle and Parker Hallows, of Norman, OK; their son, L. Scott Barton, of Tipton, MI, cousin, Byron Wanty and wife Ethel, of Pembroke, MA, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ben and Bertha Wanty and Chester and Mary Gooding, and her parents, Floyd and Ellen Wanty. The family will greet friends on Sunday, September 26th from 4-7 PM at Ochalek- Stark Funeral Home in Milan, where funeral services will be held Monday at 10AM Rev. Dr. Patricia Green of Marble Memorial United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Macon Cemetery, Macon, MI.
