Merle L. Grimes, 58, of 902 High Street, Lacon, IL, died at 8:35 a.m. July 5, 2005, in Peoria, IL.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Lenz Memorial Home, Lacon, IL. The Rev. Jeff Hurst will officiate. Burial will be at Lacon Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday in the funeral home with Masonic services at 7 p.m.
Mr. Grimes was born September 15, 1946, in Spring Valley, IL, to Wayne L. and Marjorie I. (Kuhlman) Grimes. He married Linda K. Kendall on September 14, 1969 in Lacon. She died March 13, 1977.
He then married Mary K. Potts on June 14, 1978 in Lacon.
He worked for Illinois Grain Elevator in Lacon, and later for Bush-Hollaway Ford in Chillicothe. In 1980 he was employed by the city of Lacon, retiring in 2001 as the superintendent of the street department.
He was a member of Lacon Masonic Lodge No. 61.
Survivors are his wife, Mary K. Grimes of Lacon; one son, Louis Grimes of Lacon; three stepsons, Clint (Shelly) Potts of Chandler, AZ, Jim (Angie) Potts of Peoria, and Joe (Lori) Potts of Sparta, NC; one daughter, Valerie K. Grimes of Denver, CO; two stepgrandchildren; and one sister, Melinda Grimes of Princeton.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife.
Memorials may be directed to L-S Rescue 52.
