Dr. Richard D. Norment, Jr.
Hagerstown, April 7 (AP)--Dr. Richard D. [sic] Norment, Jr., one of Hagerstown's leading medical practicioners, died in Washington County Memorial Hospital today shortly after he suffered a heart attack.
Dr. Norment came to Hagerstown shortly after World War I to do research work for the Rockefeller Institute. Later he became deputy health officer for the Public Health Service.
At one time he served on the teaching staffs of John [sic] Hopkins Hospital, and the University of Maryland Medical School, from which he graduated in 1914.
The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon.

Widely Known Physician Dies Here of Heart Attack
Funeral services for Dr. Richard Baxter Norment, Jr., who died late Monday night following a heart attack, will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, the Rev. Edward P. Heinze officiating. Interment will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
Dr. Norment was stricken with a heart attack at his offices, 119 East Antietam Street, and died shortly after being admitted to the hospital. He resided near Conococheague, west of Hagerstown.
Dr. Norment came to Hagerstown shortly after World War I and was identified for a time with the Rockefeller Institute which was then doing research work in this county. Later he became a deputy State Health Officer for the Public Health Service and then after several years entered private practice here.
Dr. Norment during World War I was a commissioned officer in the U.S. Public Health Service and saw service in France. At one time he was on the teaching staffs of Johns Hopkins Hospital and the University of Maryland Medical School.
He was graduated from the University of Maryland Medical School in 1914.
While an undergraduate he was elected to the Rush Fraternity of the University of Maryland. Later he became a member of the American Medical Association, the Maryland Medical Association and was a member of the staff of the Washington County Hospital. He belonged to a number of other honorary medical fraternities, the Hagerstown Kiwanis Club and St. Mark's Lutheran Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Hilda Norment; daughters, Mrs. Nancy Norment Woods, Bloomington, Ind.; Mrs. Joan Arsenault, this city; son, Dr. Richard N. [sic] Norment, 3d, Havre de Grace; stepdaughters, Mrs. Lois Rodeffer, this city, and Mrs. Susanne Yates, at home; brothers, Dr. Robert T. Norment, New York City, and Clinton Norment; sisters, Misses Ada and Caroline Norment, Baltimore, and Mrs. Frances Smith, Baltimore. Ten grandchildren also survive.
The body was removed to the Minnich Funeral Home where it may be viewed until noon Thursday.
Active pallbearers will be Drs. J. R. Dwyer, James W. Sachs, S. Earl Young, and Robert F. Keadle, Floyd Clingan and Bruce C. Lightner.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Washington County Medical Society together with Thomas W. Panghorn, Harry Hantz and Rev. James E. Ault.
