Clifford Buckmaster--99:
died 13 Jan 2014, at Bay Bluffs medical care facility in Harbor Springs.
Clifford was born on 27 Mar 1914 in Barron WI, a son of Shirley & Agnes (Nedland) Buckmaster & was raised in Gladstone MI. Clifford graduated from Ferris Institute & worked as a teacher & coach in Rock MI.
On 27 Mar 1936 Clifford married Lucille Olson; together they moved to Petoskey in 1942 where Clifford worked as a teacher, coach & athletic director, before retiring in 1977. Lucille preceded Clifford in death on 22 Jun 2002 after 66 years of marriage.
Clifford was an avid outdoorsman & enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing & canoeing, but he was also very active in his community as well. He served as the secretary of the original study committee to establish North Central Michigan College, he served as the secretary, treasurer and manager of the Petoskey-Bay View Country Club. He was a founder of the local Lions Club and the Petoskey Relays and was responsible for the creation of the Gunnel Grabbers of Northern Michigan in 1971. Clifford was an original member of the Petoskey High School Sports Hall of Fame and the recipient of the MHSAA Charles E. Forsythe Award in 1991.
He is survived by 3 children: Sandra Ouellette, Sheldon (Karla) Buckmaster & Sharyn (David) Hansen; 6 grandchildren [named]; 7 gr-grandchildren; & by a sister: Delores Temby.
Clifford was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lucille; and by two siblings.
