John William Baker was 54 years of age when he passed away at the home he shared with his wife Elizabeth at RFD 1 in Neodesha on June 24, 1943. He was a retired Standard Oil Refinery employee and had been a resident of Kansas for 39 years.

John was born June 8, 1889, in Dayton, Ohio, the son of Frank Baker and Jessie Illaf, both born in Ohio.

His memorial service was arranged by Mrs. Baker and their sons with the Loran Fawcett Funeral Home and conducted at the Neodesha Church of the Nazarene on June 27, 1943 with the reverend Carl H. Kruse presiding. Pallbearers included Robert Kensinger, A. Chancey, Louis Irvine, Roy Ball, Harry Kounter, and ? Streets. Interment was in the Neodesha City Cemetery.
