Graveside services for Harriet Orvis Chavanne, 94, will be at 11 AM Tuesday, Sept. 26, in Graceland Cemetery. The Rev. Dan Flowers officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home. Visitation 5-8 PM today at the funeral home. Mrs. Chavanne died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, in a local care center. She was a native of Turner Kansas, and had lived in Lake Charles since 1962, moving from New Orleans. She was a graduate of Welsh high school and received her teachers certificate from Southwestern Louisiana Institute. She taught at Second Ward and Fourth Ward schools. She was a member of the Junior League, Review Club, Lake Charles Garden Club and the Calcasieu Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a member of Boulevard Baptist church. Survivors include one son, one daughter, one brother, one sister, six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
