Martha Jane married Jacob Coon, born 19 Sep 1941 at Summit, Pike Co., MO, died Jul 1879 in Jackson, Cherokee Co., TX. They were married in Minden, LA on 10 Oct 1864. He was a Civil War veteran. In 1879 he moved his family by wagon to Texas but fell ill and died there, buried in Cherokee Co.(grave unknown). Martha took her children, by wagon, to Arkansas to be with her sister, who had married Zacariah Coon, Jacob's brother. Martha Jane later lived with her daughter Maggie Donia, and her husband Joseph Hughes, before her death, but had been visiting her other daughter, Ella Victoria, when she passed away. It was said that Martha Jane and her sister where half Cherokee.
