She married Daniel Bonawit on August 15, 1901. In the first years of their marriage, Electa and Dan lived in Toledo, where their first child was born.
They settled on a farm north of Risingsun in Sandusky Co. In the dining room, one could sit in the built-in window seat and look out towards a small pond with a rose-covered arbor. It became the home of six children, and for a time, Electa's mother also lived with the family. After the children were grown, Electa and Dan took in an elderly lodger, Frank J. Martin.
In 1930, Electa broke her hip and developed a hip problem which required her to use a cane. Still, she would take her grandchildren for walks in the woods behind the farm. They also enjoyed playing house in a little fenced area in corner of the garden by the road. Her daughters, Laurel and Helen, devoted much time and care to helping their mother manage the household.
Electa is remembered by family for being a quiet person. Her zither was passed down to one of her daughters.
In addition to the children linked below, there was a third daughter:
Josephine Martha Bonawit
b. September 15, 1916
m. Donald S. Lamm (b. August 17, 1914.)
Josephine and Donald had three children including John Randolph Lamm 191068472.
According to family tradition, her grandfather Pettis Smart had a sister named Electa, and this great-aunt may have been one of her namesakes along with her mother's sister, Sarah Smart Miller.
