Roger K. Mizell, 89, of Kearney died Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010, at Mount Carmel Home Keens Memorial. Roger was born April 24, 1921, on a farm in Garden County to William and Charlotte (Keith) Mizell.

In 1945, he married Rebecca Curfman of Garden County. She died in 1960. In 1961, he married Bessie Jenson of Chappell.

Survivors are: his devoted wife; daughters, Marcella Grimmett and her husband, Gary, of Gibbon and Sherry Jenson and her husband, Kenneth, who also was Roger's stepson, of North Platte; other stepsons, Dennis Jenson and his wife, Mary, of North Platte, and Gary Lamm of Scribner; adopted son, Steven Mizell and his wife, Janelle, of Kearney; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren and a host of friends and relatives.

He graduated from Garden County High School in 1939. He stayed on the family farm until his marriage in 1945 to Rebecca Curfman, also from Garden County. They settled on a farm in southern Deuel County and worked the land there for a number of years. He lost his wife to cancer in 1960.

Roger was blessed in marriage to Bessie Jenson of Chappell in 1961. They joined their families of Bessie's four boys and Roger's two daughters. Bessie's youngest son, Steve, became his son by adoption. They continued to farm for several more years. The farm was sold in 1964, and they entered several business ventures before settling in Kearney in 1969.

In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, LeRoy, Floyd and Riley; and grandchild, Brittany Wright.

Roger became the proud owner of the Mizell Machine Shop in 1973 and loved serving the Kearney area until he had to retire early because of health problems. He was well thought of and respected by all in the community.

His greatest goal in life was to serve the Lord God and his family faithfully. He was a great husband and father to all his children. He was a student of God's Word and lived accordingly.

Each family of children and his wife will remember him also through the handcrafted pieces of furniture and other small articles he made individually for their homes. He also enjoyed inventing things and sharing his immense wisdom and endless talent in volunteering to make or repair things for various churches, nursing homes, family and friends. He was always very involved with his local church family.

In May 2010, he moved to Mount Carmel Home Keens Memorial, where he lived until God took him home.
