BARJENBRUCH - Oliver Barjenbruch, of 112 W. Parkway, died Saturday in Columbus Manor at the age of 70.
Rev. M.W. Goldhammer will conduct 1 p.m. funeral services Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church; burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery at Leigh.
Visitation is after 3:30 p.m. today at Gass-Haney Funeral Home until 11 a.m., Tuesday, and from 12 to 1 p.m. at the church.
Son of Karl and Wilhelmina (Johannes) Barjenbruch, he was born Oct. 1, 1908 at Leigh. He attended Zion Lutheran at Leigh and graduated from Leigh High and Grand Island Business College. He married Esther Fuchs on June 7, 1939 at Grace Lutheran Church at Norfolk.
He lived at Leigh where he was employed as a bookkeeper for Spanhake Oil Company and also worked at the Bank of Leigh for eight years. In 1948 he moved to Columbus and was employed at First National Bank and Trust Company for 25 years as a loan officer in the personal loan department until he retired in 1974.
A former Leigh village clerk and treasurer, he was also a retired member of the Leigh Volunteer Fire Department, was active in Cub and Boy Scout[s] and participated in United Fund drives.
He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife; a son and daughter-in-law, Olin and Peggy Barjenbruch of Columbia, Mo.; a sister, Pauline Barjenbruch and brother Martin Barjenbruch, both of Leigh.
His parents, and two brothers, Adolf and Arnold, preceded him in death. per don
