Mr. Clayton D. "Clate" Chamberlin, 91, a guest of The Village of Laurel Run, Fayetteville, Pa., and formerly of York, Pa., died at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 5, 2007, in the nursing home.
He was born on Dec. 4, 1915, in Waynesboro, Pa. He was the son of the late Robert and Lulu (Shockey) Chamberlin.
Mr. Chamberlin graduated from Waynesboro High School with the class of 1936.
He served with the United States Merchant Marines during World War II, serving on several ships.
He and his late wife, Mrs. Mildred A. "Milly" (Marshall) Chamberlin, were married on Nov. 25, 1937, in Hagerstown, Md. They moved to 8007 Tomstown Road, Waynesboro, in 1948. They also spent the winter months in Wabasso, Fla. Mrs. Chamberlin died July 19, 1996. He then moved to York, but continued to spend the winter months in his residence in Florida. He moved to an apartment at The Village of Laurel Run in November 2006.
Following his discharge for the military, he worked at Fairchild Aircraft Manufacturing in Hagerstown for several years, and then worked at Hess Manufacturing in Quincy for a short time. Prior to retiring in 1980, he was a machinist at Mack Trucks in Hagerstown.
He was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Quincy, Pa., and while in Florida, attended Grace United Methodist Church, and was also a member of BPO Elks Lodge 731 of Waynesboro.
He enjoyed fishing and camping.
He is survived by two daughters, Beverly L. (husband Donald Jr.) Cooper of Fayetteville and M. Melinda (husband Tim) Kelley of Mont Alto; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; two sisters, Thelma Roof of Camp Hill, Pa., and Louise Dokla of Waynesboro; three brothers, Robert Chamberlin Jr. and Lloyd Chamberlin, both of Waynesboro, and Charles E. "Bill" Chamberlin of Chambersburg; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2007, at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, with the Rev. James M. Russell officiating. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery near Mont Alto.
