Dwight Jess Nicholas, 34, of Honeyville, died Wednesday, Sept 5, 1979, in a Salt Lake City hospital of injuries suffered in a horse roping accident.
He was born Feb. 23, 1945 in Tremonton, a son of Dwight Wayne and Janice Wight Nicholas.
He married Shannon Kay Dayton on July 30, 1966, in Cokeville, Wyo. The marriage was solemnized in the Logan LDS temple on August 2, 1968.
He graduated from Box Elder High school and LDS seminary. He had attended Weber State college and was an excavation contractor.
He was a former member of the Box Elder County Sheriff's posse, and had served as a director of the Bear River Valley Cutter Racing association.
He was PTA president of Honeyville school, fire chief of the Honeyville Volunteer Fire department, and had been serving as Honeyville precinct chairman at the time of his death.
He was an elder in the Honeyville LDS ward and was serving as Sunday school teacher and member of the ward activities committee, as dance specialist and home teacher.
He fulfilled as LDS Cumorah mission from 1964 to 1966 and also served as ward executive secretary.
Surviving are his widow of Honeyville; five sons, Darren Nicholas, Shawn Nicholas, Monte Nicholas, Cody Nicholas, and Dustin Nicholas, all of Honeyville; his mother of Honeyville; his father of Bear River City.
Also surviving are one brother and three sisters, Richard Wayne Nicholas, Promontory; Mrs. Eddie (Tamara) Dayton, Cokeville; Mrs. William (Kathryn) Hughes, Honeyville; Mrs. Hal (Barbara) Hawkins, Virden, N.M.; grandfather, E. Emery Wight, Honeyville.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the Honeyville LDS ward chapel with Bishop Lynn J. Reeder officiating.
Friends may call at Rogers mortuary in Tremonton Sunday from 6 to 8:30 p.m. and at the ward Relief society room Monday from 9:15 to 10:45 a.m.
Burial will be in Harper cemetery.
