Born August 28, 1976 to Ernest and Gabriela Mata, Octavio Jesus Mata joined his grandparents in Heaven on September 25, 2010. He died peacefully at home in Lomita. Octavio grew up in Torrance having attended Le Lycee Francais De Los Angeles, Calle Mayor Middle School and South Torrance High School (Class of 1994). He will be remembered fondly for his charm, wonderful smile and how he cared for others. Ready to give everything he had. Watching him grow into fatherhood was a proud moment for his family. He loved life and knew how to celebrate friends and family. Whether it was a birthday party, 4th of July, or UCLA tailgates, he new how to get it done and made sure everyone was along for the ride. We will miss him dearly but know his spirit is alive in his son, Jackson (2 1/2 years). He shared his passion for sports with his son having already taken him to many Dodger, UCLA football and Laker games. Octavio is survived by his beautiful son, Jackson; loving parents, Ernest and Gabriela; brothers, Ernesto, Fernando and David; sisters, Rebecca (Orlando Franco) and Veronica (Marty McDonough); nieces, Jessica, Lauren, Mary and Alexis; and nephew, Christian. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Placida Castillo Lopez, Virginia Gomez, Jesus and Agapita Mata. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been set up for Jackson's future education. A memorial service will be held at St. Lawrence Martyr Church, Redondo Beach on Thursday, September 30, 2010, 10:00 a.m., followed by interment at Green Hills Memorial Park.
