Robert E. Smith, a retired pressroom worker at the Post-Dispatch, died Tuesday (May 21, 2002) of congestive heart failure at St. Alexius Hospital. He was 75 and lived in St. Louis.

Mr. Smith worked at the Post-Dispatch from 1958 to 1988. He was a past officer in the St. Louis Graphic Communications Union.

He served in the Coast Guard during World War II. In 1950, he married the former Lucy V. Parker, and she died in 1979.

A funeral service was held Thursday. Burial was at the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.

Among survivors are two sons, Robert E. Smith Jr. of Jefferson County and Stephen E. Smith of St. Louis County; a daughter, Teresa Stallings of Tallahassee, Fla.; and a sister, Mary Lovins of Arlington, Texas.
