A funeral Mass for John P. ''Jack'' Mess, a former Catholic Youth Council soccer and baseball coach, will be at 11 a.m. today at Epiphany Church, 6598 Smiley Avenue in St. Louis. Burial will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
Mr. Mess died Friday at St. Mary's Health Center in Richmond Heights after a heart attack. He was 55.
Mr. Mess began coaching youth teams in the early 1960s and dedicated much of his free time to youth activities.
He was a plumber for more than 25 years and founded the J.P. Mess Plumbing Company in 1983. His son, James G. Mess, operates the company.
Besides his son James, surviving are his wife, Teresa Mess ; a son, John P. Mess; three daughters, Angela Mess Klein, Elizabeth Messel and Teresa I. Kamper; and a grandson, all of St. Louis.
