Prof. E. E. Long

ADA - E. E. Long, 79, a retired Ohio Northern University professor, died Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in the Ada Nursing Home. He had been ill for the past two months.

Prof. Long was faculty manager of athletics at ONU before the university had an athletic director. He also was noted for being an expert penman and had engrossed thousands of diplomas for university graduates.

He was born Nov. 23, 1880 in Allen County, the son of Michael and Leah (Anspach) Long. He was married to Olive Sarah Heffner Dec. 25, 1905, who survives.

Other survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Margaret Farnlacker of Dayton and Mrs. Dorothy Alice Thorp of Waynesfield; four sons, Jesse R. of Toledo; Richard E. of New York City; Russell J. of Beaumont, Tex., and James of Ada; 13 grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Clara Rhodes of Lafayette and Mrs. Jennie Clum of Ada; and two brothers, C. C. Long of Lafayette and George L. of Cridersville.

Prof. Long taught at ONU for 25 years and, after his retirement from the university, taught high school in Follansbee, W. Va.

He was a graduate of Lafayette High School, Ohio Northern University and received a master of arts degree from the University of Pittsburgh.

He was a WWI veteran, former clerk of the Ada village council and was a member of the Ada Masonic Lodge and the First Presbyterian Church.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Hanson Funeral Home with Dr. F. Bringle McIntosh officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ada.

Friends may call at the funeral home. Masonic services will be today at 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
