BLACKFOX -- Shelby Dean , 30- year-old resident of Siloam Springs, AR, died Tuesday, November 6, 2001, near Tahlequah, OK. Born February 27, 1971, in Claremore, OK, he was the son of Jay Blackfox and Carolyn Bayless Blackfox.
Shelby had been a resident of Siloam Springs for the past 8 months, formerly a resident of Broken Arrow, OK, and Kansas, OK. He graduated from high school in Kansas, OK, and was currently pursuing a degree from Vincennes University. Shelby was a Sergeant with the Cherokee Nation Marshal Service and Staff Sergeant with the B Battery 142nd in Siloam Springs, serving in the Persian Gulf. Staff Sgt. Blackfox was a member of the Arkansas Army National Guard, the 13th Judicial Drug Task Force, the Cherokee Nation SOT Team, the Kansas V.F.W. and the American Legion. He was a certified C.L.E.E.T. Instructor. He was affiliated with the Missionary Baptist Church in Colcord, OK.
Survivors include: his wife, son, parents, paternal grandparents, sister, all of Kansas, OK. A niece, nephews, mother-in-law and father-in-law of Tulsa, OK; a number of aunts and uncles, brother-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Friday, November 9, 2001, at the new high school gymnasium in Kansas, OK, with Rev. John Crowley and Brother Sam Andrews officiating. Burial will follow in Kansas Cemetery with service under the direction of Wasson Funeral Home, Siloam Springs, AR. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Trenton Blackfox Educational Fund, c/o First Arvest Bank, Siloam Springs, AR 72761; or Siloam Springs Desert Storm War Memorial, c/o Bank of Siloam Springs, Siloam Springs, AR 72761.
