Davis--Mrs. George W. Davis had a stroke of apoplexy Monday night and expired within 15 minutes after being stricken. She was in her usual good health during the day, and walked down town with her granddaughter. Grandma Davis was a lovable and popular old lady and her death has caused sorrow even outside the family circle. The aged husband, who is left alone, is one of our most respected citizens, and he has the sympathy of our people in his sorrow and irreparable loss.
Phoebe C. Adams, daughter of Daniel and Mary Adams, was born in Parke county, Indiana, March 10, 1840, and died of apoplexy in Powhattan, February 7, 1916, aged 75 years, 10 months and 27 days. The deceased was married to George W. Davis at Andrews, Indiana, March 10, 1866, and continued to reside there until 1884, when they came to Brown county, Kansas, which has since been their home, except for a few years residence in Oklahoma. To this union were born four children, two of whom preceded her in childhood. Besides her husband, she is survived by two children, Mrs. Utie Irey, of Powhattan, and Samuel S. Davis of Great Falls, Montana, and seven grandchildren, a brother, H.S. Adams of this vicinity, and half sisters, of Indiana.
From early life Mrs. Davis had been a member of the German Baptist, generally known as the Dunkard, church. To her family and friends she was ever kind, patient and true. The funeral sermon was preached by Rev. F.H. Ebright at the Powhattan Methodist church Wednesday afternoon, and the body interred in the Powhattan cemetery.---Powahttan Bee.
