Jack (Johnny) Walker, 63, former DJ of Night Owl at WFOB, Fostoria, OH, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2005, at his residence in Lady Lake, FL.
He was born Oct. 8, 1941 in Fostoria, OH, to Jack and Cozetta (Rader) Walker, Sr.
He married Barbara Opperman in Fostoria, June 30, 1962.
Those who survive him include: his loving wife; three daughters, D'Aun Leston, Dayton, OH; Jacqueline (Douglas) Adkins, Charlotte, NC; and Leah (Mitch) Roberts, Las Vegas, NV; four granddaughters; Nicolle and Christina Leston, Mackenzie Adkins, and Mia Roberts; three sisters-in-law: Colleen Sheaffer, Betty LaPyrne and Doris (Don) Talbot; a brother-in-law, Danny (Dorothy) Opperman; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many dear friends.
Johnny was well known as a DJ at WFOB in Fostoria and later in Albany, NY, Lima and Dayton, OH where he eventually became a popular television personality.
Johnny worked as a broadcaster for many years in Dayton and hosted the annual Muscular Dystrophy telethon for 18 years.
He was the president of Hara Arena Conference and Exhibition Center from 1987 through June 2001.
He was the recipient of numerous community awards including three regional Emmy awards and the 1987 Dayton Public Relations Society of America "Smitty" award.
He served his community as president of the Trotwood Chamber of Commerce, Old Time Newsies, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, and other organizations as well.
Visitation was held 3-8 p.m., Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, at Tobias Funeral Home, Fair Hills Chapel, Dayton, OH.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 28, 2005 at 10 a.m.
Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
