Ralph was a lifelong member of Trinity
Moravian Church. He was the first Eagle Scout in the area, now known as the Old
Hickory Council. He was retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company after 46
years of service. He was a private pilot and built his own plane. He was also a
bluegrass musician.

He was married three times and was preceded in death by
his first two wives, Mary Dhu Anderson Carter and Ann Sigmon Carter. He was also
preceded in death by his daughter, Peggy Ann Gray Carter Lackey; and three
brothers, Bynum Carter, Miles Carter Jr. and C. Douglas
Carter. He was survived by his third wife Addie Belle Latham Williams.
