Recitation of the Rosary for Richard Lewis Kenedy will be 7 p.m. Thursday, in the chapel at Burns Mortuary of Pendleton. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday attention St. Mary Catholic Church in Pendleton with internment at Olney Cemetery.
Mr. Kenedy, 91, of Pendleton, died Saturday, April 4, 1998, at Juniper House.
Richard Lewis Kenedy was born Feb. 5, 1907, at Colfax, Wash., to Richard Lewis and Nina Newton Kenedy. He grew up at Colfax and graduated from Colfax High School then attended Washington State University for two years.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1927 and served in the Navy for 30 years, retiring in 1957 as a Captain. He received the Bronze star while serving in the Philippines during World War II.
On Nov. 28, 1931, he married Julia Sabol. After his retirement from the Navy, the couple moved to Tacoma, Wash., where he was employed by the Washington State employment Department for 10 years. They moved to Pendleton in June 1989. Mrs. Kenedy died Aug. 3, 1990. Mr. Kenedy had been a resident of JuNiors House the past eight years.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting and woodworking and he and his wife enjoyed many happy times camping in their travel trailer.
Mr. Kenedy was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Pendleton and had been active in the Parish Council of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Tacoma. He was a member of the Retired Officer's Association, and Washington State Retired Workers Association.
Survivors include a daughter, Arlene Malcom of Pendleton; three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and other relatives.
Burns Mortuary of Pendleton is in charge of arrangements.
Richard Lewis Kenedy was a retired US Navy officer having honorably served in the South Pacific during World War II earning the Bronze Star. I am proud to say Captain Kenedy was my uncle. Respectfully, Richard Smith
