Independent film producer. He began his career in Hollywood as a film cutter, becoming editor of Cosmopolitan Productions. Began producing career in 1925, turning out some 250 short subjects. In the 1930s, Futter branched out into producing travelogues, including "Africa Speaks" (1933) and "India Speaks" with noted explorer Richard Halliburton. He produced ten Western films with Hoot Gibson and Adele Lacey (1914-1953), who became his wife in 1937. These included "Cavalcade of the West," "The Riding Avenger" and "Swifty" (all 1936). He also produced "Dark Sands" (1937, original title "Jericho") with Paul Robeson. He went on to make other films internationally before leaving active producing in 1948. He then segued into importing and selling camera equipment. In his final five years he was the president of Videoscope, U.S. representatives for a German wide-angle camera lens. After the death of his first wife, he married another actress, Betty Bartley, who survived him.
