William Christopher (Billy) Dyess was the son of Elizabeth Everett and George W. Dyess and the husband of Martha Croaker.

He built a bridge across the Buckatuna, Creak in Wayne County about 1866. It was a toll bridge that settlers used when they were going west to Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas. The bridge did not have a metal nail in the structure.

It has been noted by Tim Burgess that Wm. Christopher was a member of Co. A. 1st Mississippi Cavalry Reserves, C.S.A. All five brothers were in Confederate Service. Brother John was killed in Battle.
