CAYCE - Services for Robert Brooks Cornwell, 88, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, conducted by the Rev. Donald P. Davis with burial in Southland Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Craig Snider, Jeffrey Jones, Rob Cornwell, Tim James, Kevin Reeley, Brian Thornton, Jerry Gillian, and Eric Stewart. Honorary pallbearers will be the Senior Men's Sunday School Class at Trinity Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to the Building Fund of Trinity Baptist Church, 2003 Charleston Hwy, Cayce, SC 29033 or to Palmetto Senior Care, 700 Knox Abbott Drive, West Columbia, SC 29169. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mr. Cornwell died Wednesday, May 9, 2001. Born in Groometown, N.C., he was a son of the late Joseph Herman and Kate Groome Cornwell. He was a US Army veteran with service in World War II. Formerly of Randleman, N.C., he had been a local resident since 1990, relocating to Cayce to be near his family. His hobbies included golf, checkers and gardening, but his greatest love was his grandchildren. Mr. Cornwell was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and retired from Jefferson Standard Life Insurance Company in 1976. Mr. Cornwell's family wishes to express a special thanks to the staff of Palmetto Senior Care for their compassion and love shown to Mr. Cornwell during his last five years.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Louise Hutchins Cornwell; daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Jimmy Jones of Lexington, Brenda and Roland Mann of West Columbia; son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Sally Cornwell of Asheboro, N.C.; sister, Louise Laffoday of California; grandchildren, Jennifer Reeley, Jeffrey Jones, Julie Stewart, Kelly Snider, Patti James, Amy Gillian, Craig Snider, Rob Cornwell; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his grandson, Jaime Jones.
