Ethan Allan Cornell was a third generation blacksmith following in the profession of his father and grandfather. He ran a blacksmith shop in Canton for more than 40 years. He was also a popular musician who could play string instruments and bass horn. He was a member of the Livingston Orchestra for many years. Ethan was often called "Pop". The nickname came from a popcorn stand he also ran for a number of years in Canton.
He was married in 1895 to Annie Knox who died in 1923. He was survived by his brother and his daughter.
