"Mrs Lois Scouten, 86, of Spartansburg, died Sunday, May 4, 1980, in the Corry Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. Mrs Scouten was born May 9, 1893, in Sparta Township, a daughter of Arthur and Jennie Paden Blakeslee. She lived her entire life in the Spartansburg area. She was a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church of Spartansburg, the Maybeth Missionary Society, the Sparta Grange, and of the Spartansburg Senior Citizens. On Dec 29, 1915, she married Elbert Scouten, who survives, with two sons, Gerald of Centerville RD 2, and Elbert of Tucson, AZ; a daughter-in-law, Mrs Verna Scouten of Corry RD 1; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. A son, William; two brothers, Wave and Paul; one sister, Bertha Smith; and one grandson, Jerry Scouten, died previously. Friends may call at the Spartansburg Branch of the Bracken Funeral Home from 7 to 9pm today, and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm Tuesday, and attend the funeral service there at 2pm Wednesday with Rev Norwood B Futrell, pastor of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church of Spartansburg, officiating. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Spartansburg."
