Charles W. Archdale, 64, 733 East McClure Avenue, for years state secretary of the Travelers Protective Association of America, was found hanging in an attic stairway of his home at 5:40 p.m. Friday, October 25, 1940. Despondency over the death of his wife two years ago is believed the cause.

Mr. Archdale was born here October 18, 1876, a son of Samuel and Martha Archdale. He married Agnes Bridget Kelly here in 1901. She passed away in 1918 and in 1920 he married Mabel Mowry, who passed away in June, 1938.

He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Joseph Maple and two grandchildren, Richard and Joan Maple, of Peoria.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Cumerford-Endsley Memorial home. The Rev. Howard Detweiler, pastor of Glen Oak Christian church, will officiate. Burial will be in Springdale Cemetery at Peoria, IL.
