John and his son [John R. 1838-1844), perished in a prairie fire. His body "with his son clutched in his arms" was destroyed; presumed buried in the Fields cemetery beside his brother, Ezekiel, who also died in the late October, 1844 fire in their home fields. [From Cherokee Nation newspaper, published 1844]. John & Elizabeth were parents of Martha(Rogers); Richard M.; Mary Jane (Mograin); Nannie A.; James W.; Sabra Jane(Foster-Secrest); Sarah E.; and John R. Fields, d.1844. He was the son of Chief Richard Fields, Jr. & Elizabeth Hicks. Born in the Cherokee Nation.
