Obituary:

John W Groves, 75, of Carmichaels, Pa., formerly of Dilliner, PA., died Tuesday Feb 1, 2000 in Reynolds Memorial Hospital, Glendale.

He was born Jan. 31, 1925, in Dilliner, son of the late Roy and Lennie Summers Groves.

He retired as a coal miner from U.S. Steel Maple Creek Mine, and was a member of UMW Local 1248. He was raised in Poland Mines Assembly of God Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years. Florence Sullenberger Groves; two daughters, Mrs. Paul (Linda) Konwalski and Mrs. Bill (Lisa) White, both of Cameron; six grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

He was also preceded in death by two sons, Richard Eugene Groves, in infancy, and John W. Groves, Jr.; a sister, Frances (Groves) Presock; and four brothers, Willis, Floyd, Wayne, and Gerald Groves.

Friends may call at Richard R. Herod Funeral Home, Point Marion, Pa., from 7-9 p.m. Friday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday, and until 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 6, time of service with the Rev. Fred Tomlinson officiating. Burial will be in Wolf's Cemetery, Dilliner, with military rites by Post 747 and American Legion, Post 499, both of Point Marion, Pa.
