Cherryville – Mr. AR McNeely, 90, passed away peacefully at his home in Cherryville, surrounded by family on Monday, October 4, 2010. Having completed his journey with us, he now enjoys his heavenly reward.

AR was born September 2, 1920 in Cleveland County, NC a son of the late Ambrose and Schofield Cook McNeely of Casar, NC. AR retired as a long line driver for Carolina Freight Carriers of Cherryville in 1982 after 35 years of service. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Cherryville where he served as an elder. He was a member of Cherryville Masonic Lodge # 505 A.F. & A.M., and he was a past member of the Scottish Rite in Charlotte, NC. He was greatly impacted by his service with the Oasis Shriners. He has had many names; "Daddy", "Pop", "Paw-paw", "Grandpa", "Poppa Squirt", "Mac", and "Fiddle-foot". All of them meant he was precious to each of us. What a wonderful example we have witnessed in this man of the life-changing power of God's salvation through his Son Christ Jesus. "17Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! 18All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation." 2 Corinthians 5:17-18 (New International Version). Just as this verse directs us to, he gladly spoke up to reach others so they too could have a relationship with Christ, and may we follow this example. He will be greatly missed. But what a comfort to know that those who do have that relationship will be with him again in Heaven.

He is survived by four children; son David McNeely and wife Deb of Fayetteville NC, son Brad McNeely and wife Lisa of Charlotte NC, daughter Deborah Wall and husband Larry of Gastonia, and daughter Sharon Schronce and husband Donny of Cherryville. Also eight grandchildren; Tyler & Austin McNeely of Charlotte NC, Jeffrey Schronce of PA, Elizabeth Schronce Black of Cherryville, Troy Wall & Jennifer Wall Smith of Gastonia, Margo McNeely Koveleskie of NJ and David McNeely Jr. of Fayetteville NC. AR was also survived by eight great-grandchildren; Zachary & Jacob Zimmerman of Gastonia, Drake Wall of Ranlo, Morgan & Cassidy Schronce & Zach Germer of PA, and Ashleigh & Emily Black of Cherryville. The family would like to give special thanks to Gaston Hospice and trusted physician of many years, Dr. Ronald Digby.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by all eleven siblings, his grandson Phillip McNeely, and his wife Mary Hunt McNeely. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, Ocotber 7, 2010 at 12:00PM at First Presybyterian Church of Cherryville with Dr. Bill Lowe officiating.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 10:45-11:45AM at First Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall.

Burial will follow at Corinth Baptist Church in Casar, NC with full Masonic rites. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Gaston Hospice at PO Box 3984, Gastonia, NC 28054 or to Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 W. Faris Rd, Greenville, SC 29605.
