Roland Thomas Moore and his twin Norman Herbert "Herb" Moore were born on July 22, 1879, in Pennsylvania to Norman L. Moore and his wife Laura J. Dawson Moore. His father worked in the oil industry in Pennsylvania where he and Laura were both born and then, by 1900, moved his family to Neodesha, Wilson County, Kansas, to work in the oil fields there.

Roland lived most of his childhood years in Kansas. In 1906 when he was 27, he married Pearl Leta Lilly, the daughter of Samuel and Mary Lilly. In 1908 the couple had their only child whoom they named Maurine.

Roland and Pearl moved frequently during their married life. In 1910 they were living in Independence, Kansas, where Roland worked as the proprietor of a restaurant. In 1918, they were living in Chanute, Kansas, where Roland was a railway brakeman. In 1930 they were living in Black Dog, Oklahoma, where Roland was a farm boss for an oil lease.

Tragedy struck in 1938 when Roland's twin Herb Moore was killed in an automobile accident. Roland and Herb's wife and son brought the body back from Texas to Neodosha, Kansas, so that Herb could be buried in the Moore family plot.

Eventually, Roland and Pearl returned to Chanute, Kansas, to live out the remainder of their lives. Roland died on July 20, 1961, just two days short of his 83rd birthday. He was buried in Elmwood Cemetery in Chanute. His grave information is Section 105, Blk 2, Lot 24, Space 1. His wife Pearl lived another ten years and was then buried beside Roland.
