Find A Grave contributor Martin W Johnson has made a suggestion regarding the Find A Grave memorial for William Fry.

" minn. g.a.r. veteran deaths book = W. B. FRY co. D. 95th Illinois inft. died may 13, 1902. member of g.a.r. lagrange post no. 79 of windom, minn.. Illinois state archives muster roll online = William B. fry pvt. co. D. 95th Illinois inft.. age 33 b. new Hartford, Hartford co., conn.. as of aug. 14, 1862 enlistment. residence was Algonquin , McHenry Co. Illinois."

He also apparently served in Bracketts Battalion Minnesota Cavalry in the Civil War. His entry in the roster of Co D, 95th Ill Infantry concludes with this notice: Wounded. Trans. to I.C., Sep 28, 1863. If you read the Wikipedia article about Brackett's Battalion, you will find it was originally part of the 5th Iowa Cavalry. Perhaps that is the unit designated by I.C. in the previously quoted phrase. Because of the Dakota War, men who served in the Sully and Sibley campaigns would have been very celebrated here in Minnesota.

He is in the 1880 US Census in Delton Township and in the 1900 Census in Delafield Township in Jackson County. For additional information see posted obituaries.

Inscription

William and Catherine Fry and their daughter Florence are all listed in the sexton's register as buried in plot F-4. This is the only marker in that plot but does not have the parents' names engraved on it, though it does have his GAR marker next to it.
