DOINGS OF THE DEATH ANGEL
Cynthia Ana Hibbs
Mrs. Cynthia Ann Hibbs, aged nearly 90 years, died Saturday about noon at the home of her daughter Mrs. Halter in Glenwood. She had been in poor health for several years and for the past year nearly a helpless invalid.
She and her husband were among the early day settlers of Mills County, Iowa, residing here for 54 years, with the exception of 10 years spent near Malvern, she has resided in Glenwood.
She was born November 7, 1818 on a farm near Cincinnati, Ohio, and while a young girl, moved with her parents to Edinburg, Johnson County, Indiana. She was married to Saul Hibbs November 16, 1837, his death occuring in 1899.
Her maiden name was Dunham and she came of a long lived race. Her mother was 90 years old when she died, and her grandmother was in her one hundredth year at her death.
The family came to Mills county in the fall of 1854 and were well known to the early settlers. Mrs. Hibbs was the mother of a large family of children, eight of whom survive her. One child died in infancy, and two died after they became grown. She is survived by 63 descendants—8 children, 30 grandchldren, and 25 great grand children. These are widely spread throughout the country. Of the 5 daughters, two live in Glenwood, Mrs. A. J. Russell and Mrs. Nan Halter. The residences of the others are as follows: Mrs. Mary E. Jones, Plattsmouth, Nebraska, Mrs. S. J. Oliver, Kansas City, Mrs. C. V. B. Russell, Forest Grove, Oregon, Alfred, Kansas City, John D., Gaston, Oregon, and George W., San Jose, California.
The funeral was held Monday, morning at 10 o'clock from the home and was conducted by Rev. J. H. Sidles
of the Congregational church. The deceased, when about thirty years of age, united wth the Christian church at Edinburg, Ind.
Those from a distance attending from a distance were Mrs. S. J. Oliver, Mr. and Mrs. Chas Russell, Mr. and Mrs. Joy Russell, and Mrs. C. C. Wright, Omaha, Nebraska.
