The son of Robert Benjamin Byers and Dora May Proffer Byers.

Mr. Byers was an employee of the city of Dallas for 20 years. He was a master plumber. He served in the United States Navy in June of 1946. He served in World War II as a seaman First Class on the USS Chevalier and later in the Korean War as a boatswain's mate on the USS Sperry.

Mr. Byers was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Clinton Preston Byers and Jimmy D. Byers; and his twin sister, Fannie Jean Hyman.
