Lavada Rose Schlegel, 97, Kimberling City, MO, formerly of Topeka, passed away on Thursday, October 7, 2010 at Tablerock Health Care Center in Kimberling City. Lavada was born on April 25, 1913 in Perry, Kansas, the daughter of Jesse R. and Edna Decker Michael.

Lavada spent her early life in Perry, graduating from Perry High School and attending Strickler's Business College in Topeka.

She was a member of the Perry Christian Church, Helena Chapter #210 Order of Eastern Star and a member of the Union Pacific Old Timers Club of Kansas City. She was employed by the AL Duckwall Store in North Topeka and later employed by the Dyer IGA Store and Harry's IGA Store, serving as bookkeeper until retiring in 1975.

She was married to James H. Schlegel of Perry in Ottawa. He passed away on July 1, 1988.

Survivors include her son, James H. Schlegel II, four granddaughters, two grandsons, twelve great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jacqueline J. Stitt of Bennington, Kansas, one brother and three sisters.
