Son of Charles Wesley and Marie Alderman. In 1940, the family made their home in Burwell, Garfield, Nebraska. Younger siblings of Ellsworth living in the home were: James, Malsena, Edna, Clyde, Florence. Virginia and Darlene.

He enlisted in the US Army October 29, 1940 and lost his life in Korea while serving with the Headquarters Company, 19th Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division. Although he was initially listed as Missing in Action, it was later determined he has been Killed in Action while fighting the enemy along the Kum River near Taejon, South Korea on July 16, 1950.
