__________________________________________
Strange but true: "Doctor" was his given name (see note at right in Flowers; he was not a medical doctor). Three descendants also shared that first name. And three grandsons, one great-grandson became respected medical doctors in NC.
He ran a successful leather tanning business with his family near Ramseur, NC.
*NOTE: Five sons (William W., Solomon A., Benjamin F., Doctor Marmaduke, and Abijah Lee) later changed their surname to 'Howard' and moved to Mineral Wells, Texas. See links to their memorials.
The sound of 'Howard' approximated older pronunciation used for 'Haworth,' before it became Hayworth in Doc Hayworth's generation. Other reasons for the Howard usage are unclear, but relatives with that name are still descendants of Haworth / Hayworth line. Their memorials are all on Find A Grave.
Assistance and info are welcomed.
