NORFOLK CIVIL WAR VETERAN, 94, DIES.
Norfolk, Neb.
Cyrus P. Byerly, who was one of Norfolk's five remaining civil war veterans, died at his home in Norfolk, after an illness of several days. Embolism was said to be the cause of his death. Mr. Byerly celebrated his 94th birthday anniversary November 7 with a dinner given by members of his family.
Soon after the war, Mr. Byerly was married in Illinois and in 1871 he and his wife and their oldest son, Frank, traveled by covered wagon to Nebraska, settling at Ashland. In 1893 the family came to Norfolk. Mr. Byerly is survived by three sons, Frank of Neligh; Fred of Norfolk and Elmer of Chadron; one daughter, Mrs. Rose A. Genung of San Diego, Cal., and nine grandchildren.
