Esther was a loving wife, mother, sister, and grandmother.

Esther Keen Jacob was born on Feb. 1, 1923, the fourth of six children of Sarah Keen and William Jacob, in Marion, Indiana. In 1943, she married Lyle Joseph Latendresse in Baltimore, Maryland. After WWII, they settled in Decatur, Illinois, where their first child, Michael, was born. Due to a respiratory condition of Mike's, they relocated to Ft. Worth, Texas, where daughter Sarah was born. In yet another attempt to find a more suitable climate for their young son, they moved west and settled in Grants Pass, Oregon, where sons, Patrick and Timothy, were born.

Besides co-raising their four children, Esther also raised and tended fruits and vegetables and hundreds of egg-laying chickens to help support her young family. Through it all, Esther sang. "If I had a nickel for every chick I've had to feed, you know I'd never be in need, I'd be a millionaire. . . ." She was a cheerful, energetic, loving mother. Actively involved in St. Anne's Catholic Church community and numerous PTAs, Esther could always be counted upon to help with whatever need presented itself.

In 1960, Esther went to work for the V.A. in White City, Oregon. In 1961 the Latendresse family moved to Medford,Oregon, where son Mike died in 1963. That incredible loss changed her life forever. In 1970 Esther and Lyle moved to Orange County, California. There Esther worked for H.U.D., and the job was intense. She retired from Civil Service in 1976. Always an artist at heart, she enrolled in painting classes and spent many hours at the easel.

When Lyle retired in 1986, they returned to the Rogue Valley. Lyle died in 1993, just months after their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Esther remained in Medford until 2002, when she moved to the Portland suburb of Wilsonville,Oregon, where she died peacefully in her sleep on May 6, 2005,at home, at age 82.
