Wilhelm was known as 'Bill' most of his youth and adult life and while on the Police force in the City of Niagara Falls NY. He had been married twice his first wife died 1918, shortly after the birth of their son William Laverne Crewe - her name was Lillian Lawson. While training to become a police officer her left the care of his infant son with his brother Frank, he then married his 2nd wife Anna, he retired from the force after getting POLIO and moved to Florida in 1951. He adopted his wife's daughter Margie.
