Martha Ellen "Mattie" Allen was my grandmother. She was the daughter of William B. "Bud" Allen and Patsy Minerva Henderson. Mattie married George Robert Burks on Feb. 24, 1907 in Van Zandt Co., Texas. Children: *Charles Edward, Clyde Elwood, Jewel Odell (Clark, Cooper, Howard), Metta (Floyd), Lola Mae (Liles, Garber) and William Melton Burks. The family lived in Danville, Bienville Parish, Louisiana, from 1919-1924; they left there and went back to Texas. Their 400 acre farm in Danville, Bienville Parish is known as Burkplace. Her siblings were Arty, Mary Elizabeth (Kennemer), James Archibald, John Samuel, Joseph and William B. Allen, Jr. My Grandmother Martha was the granddaughter of James Madison Allen and Mary Elizabeth Bunton, daughter of Robert Holmes Bunton and Priscilla Jane McIntosh, also ancestors of President Lyndon Baines Johnson. Mary's sister was President Johnson's ancestor, making him and my grandmother cousins.
