Thomas G. Edwards, aged 80 years, 6 months and 11 days, died at his home one mile west of Barrow at 2:05 p.m. March 4, 1909. Funeral services conducted by Rev. T. N. Marsh of Upper Alton were held at the Baptist church in Barrow at one o'clock p.m. Saturday, March 6. Interment was made in the Edwards Cemetery. He was a son of Isham and Sarah Day Edwards, pioneer settlers of Greene County. June 22, 1848 he and Miss Elizabeth Smith, a daughter of David Smith, were married and to this union were born ten children, three of whom survive, as follows: Henrietta, wife of John F. Doyle; Lucy, wife of Geo. Williams; and Emma, wife of O. S. Thompson, all of Barrow vicinity.

March 2, 1869 his first wife died and on May 27th of the same year he and Miss Serena Ann Moore were married and to this union were born six children, two of whom survive as follows: Elizabeth, wife of Chas. Bushnell, and Carrie, wife of Hunter Leach, both of Barrow vicinity.

Mr. Edwards was one of the most prominent farmers and stockraisers in northern Greene county. He was a man of the strictest integrity, honored and respected by all who knew him. He was a man of strong and decided opinions. Politically, he was a Democrat and religiously a Baptist. He despised sham and hypocrisy and always took the lead in those movements which tended to uplift the social and moral conditions of his community. By years of hard work and earnest endeavor he succeeded in accumulating considerable property and was one of the largest land owners in his neighborhood.

Besides the widow and children he is survived by 26 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Jas. M. Edwards of Camden, Ill., and Presley G. and Geo. W. Edwards of New Bloomfield, Mo., are his surviving brothers.
