He married Myrta Allen, April 9, 1901, and to this union one son was born. Mrs. Hockett died May 30, 1957.
He was county commissioner for Jewell county for several years, Sunday school superintendent and elder of the Christian church for many years.
Mr. Hockett farmed 10 miles north of Beloit from 1901 to 1919 then moved to Beloit and started a general insurance agency. A few years later he joined the staff of the Rain and Hail Insurance Bureau, with which he remained until ill health forced him to retire.
He went to Alexandria, Minn., in April, 1957, to make his home with his son, Keith.
He was a member of the Christian church, Masons and Odd Fellows. In the Masons he received the 32nd Degree Scottish Rite. He was also a charter member of the Beloit Rotary club.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Oct 25, 1960 at the First Christian church, Beloit with Rev. Dean Breedlove officiating. Burial was in the Elmwood cemetery, Beloit. --Beloit Call
