Vera Louise Gould Gaston
Memorial services for Vera Louise Gould Gaston were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2007, at the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation. Father Bob Johnson officiated. A reception, hosted by Vera's employer, Baker & Botts LLP, was held following the service in the Great Hall at the church. Private family interment was at Grove Hill Cemetery in Dallas.
Vera passed away at her home in Dallas on Friday, Aug. 10. She fought a very courageous battle with breast cancer.
She was born in Bossier City on Oct. 25, 1938. The family moved to West Monroe in 1948. She graduated from West Monroe High School in 1957 and was voted the senior "most likely to succeed." She was also a graduate of the famous John Robert Powers Modeling School. She was a glamorous, charming lady of many interests and talents whose loves of her life were Kirk, her daughters, Gina and Cynthia, their families and her numerous friends. She loved cooking, entertaining, her job and painting — both oil and watercolor. She has sold some of her artwork. Having beautiful handwriting, she was often engaged to address envelopes for Dallas social events. She was at her best when writing encouraging notes to someone who was going through difficult times.
Vera, a longtime employee of the Dallas law firm Baker & Botts, LLP, has made a lasting impression on all who have dealt with her through the firm. She was totally committed to the well being of the firm. They, in turn, have shown their love and appreciation toward Vera in many thoughtful and generous acts of kindness during her time with the firm and her illness.
Vera was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert H. and Velma Elizabeth Gould; brothers, Rev. John C. Gould Sr., and Leon Gould; and sisters, Margaret Marang and Nell Schulze.
Survivors are her devoted and beloved husband of 48 years, B. Kirk Gaston; daughters and husbands, Gina and John Rentz and Cynthia and Kenny Slaton; granddaughters, Elizabeth and Katherine Rentz, Kallie Kennon and husband, Endri Kennon; great-granddaughter, Sierra Kennon; brothers, James Gould and Osburn Hollis Gould; sisters, Marteal Gamble, Nena Skannal, Nelda Kay Hawkins, Laverne McLeland of Monroe, and her very special, devoted and encouraging sister, Lorene Brook of Baton Rouge.
