Guy Hyde Dies at 74

Guy P. Hyde, 74, a resident of Grand Island for 40 years, died Saturday morning in a local nursing home. Mr. Hyde had been in failing health for 10 years and critically ill since March.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon in the chapel of the Livingston - Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. L. Paul Bowling, pastor will conduct the service. Burial is to be in Grand Island Cemetery.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 o'clock Monday evening at the Livingston-Sodermann Funeral Home.

Mr. Hyde was lifelong resident of Nebraska. He was born on a farm near Sargent, Oct 24, 1889 to Valentine and Melissa Hyde.

He and Elva I. Howard were married Feb 2, 1912 at Taylor. They began their home on a farm near Taylor and there until 1923, when they came here.

Mr. Hyde was employed as car inspector by the Union Pacific Railroad. An injury caused him to leave the service of the railroad and he was employed by Kruause Company for a period. Then he fed cattle for Smith Company in the local yards for several year. His last employment was with the McElroy Company. In 1952 he retired.

Five children were born to Guy and Elva Howard Hyde. Mrs. Hyde died May 10, 1934, on Feb 5, 1944 Sally Williams and Mr. Hyde were married in Grand Island. They made their home on West 11th until it became necessary for Mr. Hyde to enter the nursing home.

Mr. Hyde is survived by his wife, Mrs. Sally Hyde; one son, Glen Hyde of North Platte; three daughters, Mrs., A. C. Prima and Mrs. Walter Ahrens both of Grand Island and Mrs. H. B. Wyman and Mrs. Henry Engel both of Hawthorne, Calif.
