Car Swerves To Avoid Can; Man, Wife Die
A Brentwood couple was killed yesterday when the driver of the car in which they were riding swerve to avoid a fallen 5-gallon can and hit a truck on U.S. Rte. 50 in Prince George's County, according to Maryland state police. Police identified the victims as Hazel Elizabeth Peake, 65, and Litton Edward Peake, 46, of 3709 Tilden St. The driver of the car, Barbara Mae Peake, 32, of 3703 Allison St., Brentwood, was taken to the hospital and released. Police said the can of caulking compound fell off a tractor-trailer heading west in front of the Peake car on U.S. Rte. 50 just west of U.S. Rte. 301. The driver of the first truck, Paul Daniel Johnson, 34, of Essex, Md., has been charged with operating with an improper load.
