William F. Maguire, 86, of Worcester, passed away Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at St. Camillus Health Center surrounded by his loving family.

William's wife of fifty-four years, Helen (Finneran) Maguire passed away on August 9, 2001. He is survived by four sons, John Maguire and his wife Gina of Northbridge, James Maguire and his wife Kim of Sturbridge, Kevin Maguire and his girlfriend Sharon Shliapa of Webster and William M. Maguire of Bennington, VT; three daughters-in-law, Maryann Maguire of North Adams, Diane Maguire of League City, TX and Debra Maguire of North Bergen, NJ; two brothers, Frances X. Maguire and his wife Toni of Millbury and Richard J. Maguire and his wife Mary of Naples, FL; thirteen grandchildren, five great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. William is predeceased by a son, Stephen J. Maguire.

William was born in Farnumville, MA, a son of the late William H. and Margaret (Gillespie) Maguire and later moved to Worcester where he has lived all his life. He graduated from South High School and later attended Holy Cross College and Dartmouth College. After graduation, he entered the United States Marine Corps where he served his country during WWII. He later worked as a clerk for the United States Post Office for forty years before retiring in 1984. He also worked part time for Iandoli's Supermarket for thirty years.

William was a member of Saint Anne's Church in Shrewsbury. He also was a member of numerous clubs and organizations including, the 5th Marine Division Association, the Disabled American Veterans, Holy Cross Club of Greater Worcester, the American Legion Post 445, the Greendale Men's Club and the National Association of Federal Employees.

William's funeral will be held on Saturday, October 2nd from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester, with a Mass at 9 A.M. in Saint Anne Church, 130 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Friday, October 1st, from 4 P.M. to 8 P.M. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to: Sisters of Mercy - Northeast Community, 15 Highland View Road, Cumberland, RI 02864-1124.
